Contested deletion[edit]

A subcontinent is just a term for a localized landmass in any continent. Why should this redirect to a specific subcontinent in Asia? That's a hoax, totally misleading.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:30, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Quick google search I just did brings up dictionary definitions of a subcontinent: Dictionary.com, free dictionary, Merriam-webster, Macmilliam. Indian Subcontinent is just listed as an example in most of these links, and not exactly as primary topic of a subcontinent. If you argue that this page is alright being linked to Indian Subcontinent, I might as well argue that it should be linked to East Asia, Southern Africa, or Western Europe, which are easily other examples of a subcontinent. That's not right, hence the page should just be deleted. Subcontinent is not a primary topic for any specific subcontinent.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 01:55, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You don't seem to understand the way Wikipedia works. If reliable sources all refer to the subcontinent as the Indian subcontinent, then that's what we follow. The exceptions are few. That is just the way it is. Your arguments are just your personal opinion and have nothing to do with any facts. Opinion doesn't matter.

Not a single time was the context not about the Indian subcontinent. Not once. There are two very simple reasons for this traditional ordering: 1) English speakers refer to the subcontinent in context of India/South Asia/Indian subcontinent and 2) English speakers (this is the English Wikipedia) typically describe things from the point of view of the UK/USA first. You don't have any basis for putting this article up for speedy deletion other than your personal desire.Filpro (talk) 02:23, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

First, there's a difference between "Subcontinent" and "The Subcontinent" per WP:DIFFCAPS. Second, majority of the links in the search link you gave have "Indian" in them. They are obviously showing because they contain a keyword you're searching for. Simple logic! Subcontinent might be a local alternative name for Indian Subcontinent, but on a worldwide English-language level, subcontinent has a primary meaning, and it is not "Indian subcontinent". On a side note, I'd appreciate if you keep this discussion guideline based, and don't throw accusations about, or get personal with me.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 02:31, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
