Incorrect spelling of the Wyoming territory's motto in the depiction of the coat of arms

[edit]

The article correctly mentions that the territory's motto was CEDANT ARMA TOGAE, which, by the way, is a quotation from Cicero’s De officiis, book 1, chapter 77. However, the inscription below the coat of arms depicted in the box to the right reads OEDANT ARMA TOGA, which is pure nonsense. According to the copyright note the Wyoming territory's coat of arms was created by Henry Mitchell in 1876 and “restored“ for Wikipedia by user Godot13. So either Henry Mitchell got it wrong in the first place (which is not very likely, given the official purpose of his work) or user Godot13 simply transcribed (or “restored“) what he believed the spelling was, though obviously without speaking Latin himself. 92.79.101.164 (talk) 15:52, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
