I found no evidence of him except in WP and its mirrors. Created substub to facilitate verification or debunking. Anyone have another source? Is it even a plausible Chinese surname? --Jerzy(t) 07:17, 2004 Sep 13 (UTC)

He should probably be named Yi Xing; this would be compatible with [1]. --romanm (talk) 23:31, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Escapement mechanism - not the first?

[edit]

This edit to Timeline of historic inventions has replaced Yi Xing as inventor of the escapement by Philo of Byzantium, and has a reference to support this. The significance is that the ref supports the invention as some 900 years prior to Xing. This change obviously has a significant impact on this article, and I thought the editors should be made aware of this.

(PS -- I am not watching this page, although I do watch Timeline of historic inventions. If you need further input from me, contact me via my talk page although I do not believe I have anything to further contribute!)
