Singing badger's reversion of changes

[edit]

I am really sorry that the singing badger considers my changes to be of no value.

Norn->fate. OK, it is not a big deal. I called Urd "fate" because it is a common translation for "norn".

Iduna. It seems extremely unlikely that a Stockholm club named Ydun should be given as "Iduna" especially when Iduna is a form of the Norse goddess Idun.

Thule appears in the works of Procopius as a name for Scandinavia. That it is exclusively mythical is POV.

Yrsa was the mother of Rolf Krake and the wife of Adils in Norse mythology. The singing badger could have bothered to go beyond Schmadel when verifying this fact.

Ingeborg was the woman in a famous love story with Hjalmar in Norse mythology. Again the singing badger could have bothered to go beyond Schmadel when verifying this.

One of the reasons behind Wikipedia is that users can correct information when needed. Perhaps we should take this to rfc?--Wiglaf 07:12, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I should have extrapolated more. I think that your modifications have improved my additions. As for Ingeborg, yes you're right, but the mythical Ingeborg was reason why the name reappeared in modern times.--Wiglaf 06:55, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Dembowska

[edit]

According to this list, 349 Dembowska was named after Ercole Dembowski. How is it possible if Dembowska is a feminine version of the surname? Paweł "Ausir" Dembowski

The reason is that there was a tradition of giving asteroids 'feminine' names. So, even if they were named after a man, the name was 'feminized'. Other examples are 54 Alexandra (after Alexander von Humboldt) and 792 Metcalfia (after Joel Hastings Metcalf). It was all a bit silly, and eventually, the convention faded away. Endymion

[edit]

342 Endymion is saying Endymion, which is a dab page. Is it meant to be Endymion (mythology)? -- Kevin Ryde 00:11, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many of them are from mythology, so I'd say that is the most likely choice.bogdan 00:12, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

404 Arsinoe

[edit]

It says here that Arsinoe was Orestes mother, but she was in fact his nurse.Lily20 (talk) 17:19, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

308 Polyxo

[edit]

This page calls Polyxo a Hyad, but the Polyxo page says that she was a naiad, the daughter of the river god Nilus (not Atlas). They must be two different mythological figures. Is it known which one this asteroid was named for?68.203.14.51 (talk) 17:53, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

350 Ornamenta

[edit]

The dictionary of Minor Planet Names says that it is named after Antoinette Horneman, member of the SAF. [1] So not after a mariner.Hobbema (talk) 21:17, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

521 Brixia 1904 NB Latin for Brescia, Italy, birthplace of the orbit computer, Emilio Bianchi [H]

[edit]

The orbit computer, what does that mean?? Also, Emilio Bianchi's page says he was born in Rho, another town in Lombardy. I am confused. Lily20 (talk) 17:04, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orbit computer, is the (wo)man who comput the orbite, It is not ?--Jean-François Clet (talk) 12:36, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

880 Herba

[edit]

The Greek god of Misery and Poverty? I cannot find any other information on this deity. Lily20 (talk) 22:21, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

948 Jucunda

[edit]

It states that this asteroid was named for Saint Jucunda of Nicodemia, whose feast day is Nov. 25. Other sources state that Saint Jucunda of Nicodemia's feast day is July 27, while there is another separate Saint Jucunda whose feast day is Nov. 25.Lily20 (talk) 18:35, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
