scope

Should we put theorems of physics and economics in here as well, or just "mathematical" theorems?

I always thought the word "theorem" specifically referred to a mathematical result proved rigorously without reference to empirical data, so in that sense, physics and economics don't have "theorems", they have scientific conclusions or results or facts. Revolver 01:36, 11 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Can someone explain the reason for this category to me ? In what sense is listing theorems of any use ? MathMartin 21:02, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Wiktionary currently restricts its definitions of "theorem" to the mathematical sense. However, a search in Google for "Samuelson theorem" returns 25K hits on that economic theorem, demonstrating that the term "theorem" is well-established outside mathematics. Thus, this category needs to be subdivided by economics, mathematics, etc.. BeteNoir 19:48, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
