WP:VFD/Old - Needs to be unclogged

[edit]

We're backed up again. Help! -- AllyUnion (talk) 09:23, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Don't forget please, any pending deletions should be logged into Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Old/Block-compress errors for reference. -- AllyUnion (talk) 15:03, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Re: Brad Bradson deletion

[edit]

I just noticed that my article about my Brad Bradson video game character was deleted via 'consensus'. I would just like to know what was wrong with the article, as it wasn't biased in any way, and it just gave the reader information about it, was fortmatted in an easy to read way and did not contain any personal opinions.

Closing Vfd

[edit]

How DOES one close Vfd anyway?? Georgia guy 22:02, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Concerning this article, please see Wikipedia:Deletion policy/Maltese nobility. The consensus on the articles on Maltese nobility as a group is actually to keep them and put them on cleanup, presumably including this one. / Uppland 22:03, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

You closed Happiness Pokémon's vfd as delete, but didn't actually delete the article so far as I can tell. (I apologize if this is annoying, but I'd rather not see things like this get lost.) —Korath (Talk) 03:14, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)

It isn't annoying at all; I don't like breaking off in midstream, either. I closed the discussion and started to delete, and waited and waited and waited and ..... Some of my edits are taking a really long time tonight. I'll give it another shot tomorrow, or you can feel free to check with another admin to delete it. Joyous 03:23, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)

I still think a VfD is in order because she definitely seemed non-notable, unless she has had some huge cultural impact that I am unaware of. gren 05:18, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hey Joy. Just wanted to drop a note that I created a to close log list page that may be useful to you. Later! -- AllyUnion (talk) 23:25, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

R.E. Lee DeVille deletion

[edit]

Joy-

I'm a little concerned (but only a little) about your decision to close debate on the VfD for R.E. Lee DeVille and delete the page. Since the page in question had been entirely rewritten, there had been only one vote at all, a weak delete. The deletion was only four days after the page had been completely rewritten. Now, as I wrote on the page, I was still unsure whether the page should exist on the grounds of notability, even after I rewrote it. But all the previous votes for deletion had been on the basis of vandalism or a related charge, which didn't apply anymore.

Anyway, I don't mind that much, but I am wondering if there's a policy (in general, or that you use when closing debates) for these sorts of situations. Because of the way VfD works, we were unlikely to get many more votes in one direction or another, and yet it seems troubling to delete it with essentially one vote on the table.

-- Remes 17:22, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your reply. I have done as you suggested and nominated it on VfU. In the instructions for VfU, it said I should list my nomination on VfD, but I wasn't sure where to do this, since I'm not supposed to edit the original Deville VfD page. Could you please either let me know how to do it or list it for me? Thanks very much. (By the way, I hope my post on VfU shows adequately my uncertainty about whether the article even as well written deserves to be kept.) Remes 19:07, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

R.E. Lee Deville has been undeleted. I have put it back on the vfd page for a second debate. Sjakkalle 09:00, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for supporting my RfA. I very much appreciate your confidence in me. Please let me know if you see something I should (or shouldn't) be doing as an admin. Additional thanks for the note on my talk page about Kate's tool. Very happy to hear that's working! Regards, Patrick. Carbonite | Talk 13:50, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re:Votes For Deletion

[edit]

You have made a post on my talk page related to vfd on Department of Microbiology,University of Dhaka,Bangladesh. I am relatively new to wikipedia. I thought when one is nominating an article for votes for deletion one only needs to put the vfd tag. I would be grateful if u could let me know what more is to be done.TIAGaurav1146 08:37, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello!

[edit]

Hello, I'm a relatively a new user of Wikipedia. I like the idea of a free encyclopedia, but I can't seem to find an article about my school. I thought my school would have an article in here since it's really famous. Could you ask other users to research on it and create the article? My school is Smith N. Jones High School in Springfield. - 68.72.125.15 21:49, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

No, I certainly am not going to assist in the re-creation of a hoax article that has already been deleted ten times. Joyous 22:10, Mar 25, 2005 (UTC)

Mergism

[edit]

Hi there! No, I hadn't noticed that AMW wasn't active (in fact, I hadn't expected it to be, for most of the A*W seem not to be). If there's any organization to mergism beyond the 'being bold' policy, I'd be happy to hear it. Personally, I think WP has far too many stubs, and if they seem unlikely to be expanded they should merge. Information does not want to be alone :) Radiant_* 23:05, Mar 26, 2005 (UTC)

  • Okay, it would probably be a good thing to have some more mergism awareness. Maybe some message could be added to the template for welcoming n00bs? Or to the VfD instruction pages, and things like that. There's a bright yellow box that tends to help. Many people ignore stubs, or VfD them, when they should instead be merged to let them grow. Radiant_* 09:38, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

Jesus

[edit]

Hi Joy, just to let you know that I had already blocked the Jesus sockpuppet indefinitely for vandalism and offensive edit summaries. When you blocked him for 24 hours, that cancelled out my block, so I had to unblock, then reblock him. Thought I'd let you know. Best, SlimVirgin (talk) 02:23, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

No worries, Joy, I've done the same myself. ;-) SlimVirgin (talk) 02:45, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

Mergist for n00bs

[edit]

Hi there! I've asked User_talk:Mel_Etitis to add a msg to the 'welcome newbies' template, asking that they add info to existing articles rather than create stubs. I'd like your opinion on the wording thereof. Radiant_* 10:46, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

Yet another vfd foundling

[edit]

Way back in January, you closed Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Daniel Shanks as delete, but neither deleted the article nor marked it {{pending deletion}}. Could you clarify its status? —Korath (Talk) 23:29, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the catch. That article is pending deletion, and has now been tagged as such. Joyous 03:04, Apr 4, 2005 (UTC)

Johnny Paycheck, er PayCheck

[edit]

Thanks for the note about Johnny Paycheck (after growing up with his music, I find it hard to use CamelCase). I found a source for the dates of his name changes, plus a bit more info, and included it as a citation link in the article. --Robertb-dc 23:00, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed you warned this user twice about Vandalism before. To let you know, he vandalized my User page twice, so I think a 24 hour block should be needed. Zscout370 03:19, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I wonder if I could ask you to act on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Jessamyn West, nominated on April 3rd, last discussion comment April 7th? (Two articles are involved, because as you'll see Jessamyn West is both the name of a clearly notable author and a maybe-notable-maybe-not librarian blogger). It started out as a substub about the blogger. At this point both articles are mostly my own work so I certainly can't act on the VfD myself. Dpbsmith (talk) 15:09, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Jeb Bush article

[edit]

Joy, Thank you for your recent comment on the Jeb Bush article. I would have thanked you sooner, but I am still learning how to leave messages and all. I did not realize you are an admin. Now that I know you are, could you take a look at the edits made by "JEZ" on the Jeb Bush article? I think what he did is called "sneaky vandalism." Also, please comment on the discussion page to the article, if you have a chance. Thanks. SummerFR

Joy Stovall — I'm at a loss over what to do with the Jeb Bush article. I'm trying to get it to be a neutral, well-formatted article without copyright violations while at the same time not biting a newbie and stifling his efforts. Any guidance that you could give me about how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. --BaronLarf 18:55, Apr 24, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for replying; I guess that I have no choice but to go to WP:RfC. I really wanted to get some other people involved so it wouldn't be a dispute between myself and and SummerFR, since I think he's got tons of energy, and I didn't want to push him away. But since he's openly attacking me on peer review, I guess I have no other choice. I've never entered into RfC before, and if you know of any other users or admin that I could look to for some advice or support, I'd appreciate it. --BaronLarf 03:45, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the names. I've contacted Mel, but I probably don't need to contact anyone else, since SummerFR has opened up arbitration proceedings against me. Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#user:SummerFR_vs._user:BaronLarf Thanks for your help. --BaronLarf 20:20, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)

admin

[edit]

Yes, I think it would make my job easyer if I had access to the admin features. I must confess I have thought about nominating myself to get them, but I thought maybe it was a bit early (5 months). But if you nominate me I'll be gratefull for that and try to be a good admin if I pass the voting process. Thanks! Shanes 01:04, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I want to thank you again for going through all the trouble of nominating me. It went really well, and I feel very honoured by having so many supporting the nomination. Now I'll read all the admin-docs (again) and make sure I don't miss anything. Allready had the rollback thing come to use (the article on New York City had the honour), and it really is a time and click-saver. I should probably write to all those supporting me, as I've seen many do, but I'm too lazy right now, and I hope they know I appreciate it ;-). Now on to the reading, and if you should ever stumble upon me doing anything that you think I shuld have treated in a different manner, please let me know. I won't take it any wrong way, quite the opposite. Thanks! Shanes 03:05, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Plant hormone articles

[edit]

Hi Joy, those articles are such a mess, I've put them vfd, Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Plant hormone theory I, you can see my reasoning there if your interested. Thanks --nixie 03:20, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

That's alright

[edit]

don't worry, it's alright :) I appreciate your efforts. I think that vandalism can (sometimes) show what kind of job I'm doing...so I like to keep some of it. I actually reverted that vandalism myself, since they replaced everything with it, so no harm done :D I'll make a note of that vandalism so that everybody will know that somebody thinks I'm "evil & stupid" :( -Frazzydee| 22:19, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The High Road

[edit]

I appreciate the compliment. From what I know of the people posting to my site, they appear to be underaged kids. I can't get too riled up over someone who is acting like a juvenle (especially an actual juvenile), because that just plays into what they want. At times I do wish this place had more stringent entrance requirements, but then I suppose that kind of defeats the whole purpose. DreamGuy 23:31, Apr 24, 2005 (UTC)

intersting how quick he isto insulkt people, and how unwiillibng he is to learn how to avoid these vandal types, i myself am only trying to make him see how his actions inthe past casue most of the people to bother him, but he refuses to seee that his actions could have something wrong with tem, and calls me harrassing whe i am only trying to help.

in essance, his road is not the high road, from what can be seen, it is the road of one who treats others badly and cann ot deal with it when he gets it back in spades, nor can he accept assitance thats offered to change that. Gabrielsimon 11:42, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Re: Vandalism

[edit]

Hehe, yeah some of them seem to put quite alot of work into it. Shanes 19:25, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

doenst that say that they are trying to tell him something? Gabrielsimon 23:18, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

pardon, but a while ago he typed alking, so i corrected his spelling, later on, he was saying how he didnt want to have me putting stuff there, so i took off that edit to proove a point, i do not cpnsider this vandalism, but i will not edit his page any more. also, please look at his contributions to vampire lifestyle, he has scored for 4rr , and also, please read the talk page, and consider arbitration, he uses his opinion to trey and contest everything i say on that page, and then accuses me of doing such, i simnply am trying to remove a comment that is quite likly something that has no place in an encyclopdia.

look at whats happened with a user and this dream guy fellow, he thinks evryones out to get him, this makes me think hois cries of vndal should go unheeded and he should grow up, the other user tried to make peace but got rebuked. Gabrielsimon 00:04, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

well, I'd be inclined to VfD it -- it's just a pejorative term. The term will get a lot of hits, certainly; but it's not encyclopedic. (On the other hand, I said the same about "Islamofascism", so what do I know.) --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 04:58, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
