Special Reconnaissance Regiment

[edit]

Is there a relationship with this article to a Ministry of Defence announcement [1] regarding the 'Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR)?' Clue 04:54, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The SRR is a different unit, specialising in covert surveillance. It is part of the special forces group, and presumably thus subject to the same conditions of secrecy and anonymity as the SAS and SBS, while the new 'Rangers' would appear to be a more conventional unit. — Franey 12:31, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. Despite the differences in terms / purpose I was thinking there was a slight possibility that they were one and the same. Clue 03:14, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Joint Special Forces Support Group

[edit]

If the Telegraph story is confirmed, this page should be moved to Joint Special Forces Support Group. — Franey 14:54, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC).

It seems the title has been mentioned in Hansard [2] in answer to 'Defence Reductions.' Clue 06:34, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's now officially confirmed on the MoD's site for 16 Brigade: 1 PARA will leave 16 Brigade in 2006 when they take up their new role as the Joint Special Forces Support Group, based at St Athan in South Wales. I'll update the article, which should be moved to Joint Special Forces Support Group (with the "Rangers" page as a redirect): anyone know how? — Franey 11:03, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Presumably 'Changing a redirect' to edit JSFSG and move the article there. British Forces Rangers should be made a redirect if still relevant, although I do not think it is. Clue 21:37, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is it not now Special Reconnaissance Regiment? This seems to be assigned the roles mentioned in the 'ranger' hype. Perhaps brit army rangers article should be deleted now -max rspct 13:51, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No. They are different units. SRR = 14 Intelligence Company, JSFSG/"Rangers" = 1 Bn Parachute Regiment. See above, and Talk:Special Reconnaissance Regiment. — Franey 14:03, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
