Music

[edit]

I removed this from the article as I cannot find any reference to this person. If someone can put some context in, then it should back in:

“Yorkshire,” John Wainright, 1750 Wainright played the organ at the Collegiate Church in Manchester, England.

Did either father or son have any connection with Lowton? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:37, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Golborne

[edit]

Lowton is not a suburb of Golborne, this needs to be edited. Donotcover (talk) 03:09, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Prove it. There are sources stating it is [1]. Nev1 (talk) 03:15, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This proof of yours would be the Golborne Urban District which ceased to exist in 1974 when it was amalgamated into Wigan? Case closed I think, there's nothing to suggest Lowton is a suburb of Golborne any more than Culcheth is, let's get it changed Donotcover (talk) 14:57, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, Lowton has never been a 'suburb' of Golborne, even before the 1972 local government act. In fact, Lowton has always been a suburb of Warrington. Golborne and Lowton schools were controlled by Warrington education committee, before the act came into force in 1974. 92.239.71.235 (talk) 22:47, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lowton has not "always" been a suburb of Warrington. Lowton was a complete stand alone satellite community until the late 1800's when it became encompassed by the greater Leigh Registration District that ended in 1933.
1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Lowton like this:
LOWTON, a village and a parish in Leigh district, Lancashire. The village stands 1 mile E by N of Golborne r. station, and 3¾ SW by W of Leigh; and has a post office under Newton-le-Willows. The parish includes the chapelry of Lowton-St. Mary, and comprises 1,824 acres. Real property, £6,148. Pop. in 1851,2,140; in 1861,2,384. Houses, 492. The property is much subdivided. Lowton Hall and Byrom Hall are ancient mansions, now used as farm-houses.
Subsequently to all this in 1933 Lowtons Civil Parish / Chapelry was abolished and came under the new collective Golborne Urban District (Golborne itself having originally fallen under Leighs Civil Parish) which again was not part of Warrington. The schools may have been administrated by Warrington Education Committee, but that isn't evidence of being a part of Warrington itself. I would presume in fact that "Cheshire Education Committee" is the organisation to which you refer.
In 1974 Culceth and Glazebury were part of a re-alignment from the Golborne Parish, would you like to tell us what happened to Lowton?
With regards to the "imbeciles" jibe regarding those that might consider themselves Wigan over Warrington (asserted as because of an accident of postal town, which is the kind of logic that would lead all of St Helens to put their address down as "Warrington" too), try http://www.lowtonsaintmarys.wigan.sch.uk/ ? conversely http://www.lowtonhs.wigan.sch.uk/ and http://www.stlukes.lowton.info/ list their address as Warrington.
With reference to the topic of if Lowtown is a suburb of Golborne, that's a matter of reference for Wigan, who apparently are quite keen to bundle them together [2] and Police [3] [4]
Apparently, again, Jemmy has gone for the insulting response in a recent edit rather than actually looked at what the people of Lowton actually consider themselves as, and what can actually be cited. Koncorde (talk) 12:33, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
