Computer & Video Games

[edit]

I believe that Computer & Video games should be listed as a recognized academic discipline (as, for example, film and radio are included). There are now several dedicated degree-level courses covering various facets of the discipline (e.g. tools & technology, software engineering, 3D art & animation, design, production management) and a growing body of academic literature and journals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.69.23.39 (talk) 26 December 2007

Difference between this list and ‘List of academic fields’? Merge?

[edit]

Can anyone explain what the difference is between this article and List of academic fields? Should these two lists be merged? Why or why not? In the talk section of Outline of academic disciplines the words "fields" and "disciplines" are used interchangeably. What is the difference? If a reasonable difference can be stated, shouldn't a suitable rationale for each article be given in each article's opening paragraph, helping reader's understand why each article exists and how it is differentiated from the other? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryan Close (talkcontribs) 15:39, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would second this. Merging this page into List of academic fields. Jamzze (talk) 20:36, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Universal List of Academic Disciplines?

[edit]

The outline uses Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP 2000), Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification and Complete JACS as points of reference for the list.

Is there no "universal" outline on academic disciplines made by "official" sources? Any attempts at making one?

Separating the Arts from the Humanities?

[edit]

The methods and methodologies employed by the arts and humanities vary considerably - I would argue these should be separated and 'The Arts' be given their own disciplinary area to highlight this significance. Jamzze (talk) 20:00, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For example, looking at Dr Katrin Niglas outline of the methodology continuum, the 'Arts' are a distinct discipline [1]. Jamzze (talk) 20:14, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
