Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RFPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Incredibly high level of vandalism, misinformation, or just bad edits. Not a week goes by without someone either adding "pro-Russian" in the infobox, removing Euroscepticism and replacing it with pro-Europeanism, or vandalizing the article by calling the party a "Russian Dream" or its founder "Borys Ivanishvili". I think this easily warrants extended confirmed protection as it is a very contentious article about a very controversial party and protection will save it from being stuck for hours with vandalism until someone notices and reverts. Temporary pending changes: BLP policy violations – IPs making unhelpful edits to the page of a public figure. Pending would allow helpful edits through while restricting gossip/vandalism. Paris1127 (talk) 20:49, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Per WP:ARBPIA. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 20:59, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Repeated unproductive IP edits 162 etc. (talk) 22:48, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The experiment of this page being unprotected has failed as the edit warriors and vandals have since returned. The idea of a topic regarding the far-right not being CTOP is clearly short-sighted here overall. CNC (talk) 23:08, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ongoing and persistent IP edits changing Nanchang to Hong Kong despite no sources provided, and no findable evidence to support claims, not to mention the clear proof to the contrary from pre-existing source, and from the manufacturer's website stating JMEV is in Nanchang in no uncertain terms. Zinnober9 (talk) 04:33, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 15:37, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent IP edits repeatedly changing pronouns despite warnings. Has been protected previously for same reason. StewdioMACK (talk) 04:49, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Hi, I'm renewing page protection for this month due to WP:VANDALISM and WP:CRIT. The Vice President of the Philippines Sara Duterte, is involved in several controversies, and her articles are prone, and bias. An IP user edited the name 'Shimenet' into Sara Duterte's article.

(For the context: The term 'Shimenet' related to VP Sara Duterte has become controversial and is often used in memes on social media, particularly following a Senate Hearing where she had a arguments with Senator Risa Hontiveros. Royiswariii (talk) 04:56, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Unfortunately, someone is still trying to add defamatory contents that violate WP:BLP. It might appear well-referenced at first, but if you take a closer look you'll see that the text is poorly written, negative in tone, and that the references are bogus (duplicates, Russian-language unreliable sources, web archives, blog-based content, paid attacks, and even English-language sources that discuss the subject completely differently from how the article does). It has also triggered the "possible BLP issue or vandalism" tag, see [1]. Originally, this was all added by an autoconfirmed SPA sock account (Special:Contributions/Παλαβός) which has now resumed the edit warring. I suggest that the edits be reverted and the page be bluelocked to prevent future BLP violations. Thanks. 2A02:8308:F:9900:DC4C:EE8E:F4F:471A (talk) 06:31, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: I am writing to request the semi-protection of the "Association of Malayalam Movie Artists" article. The page has become a hot topic recently and has been repeatedly targeted by vandalism. Despite a previous protection request that was granted, the protection lasted only a couple of days, and the vandalism has since resumed.

Given the article's current relevance and the frequency of disruptive edits, I believe that extending the semi-protection would help maintain the integrity and reliability of the content. A temporary protection period of 2-4 weeks should suffice until the topic cools down. Kaeez06 (talk) 13:25, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – IP socks of User:SHUBHAM788 at work adding unsourced genre "action thriller film" en masse in many articles. Reason: I've noticed that some edits from IP address users have been affecting the constructive development of the page. I've encouraged these users to participate in the Talk page discussions to share their perspectives and collaborate on making positive contributions, but they are failing to do and continue with their un-constructive edits. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
