First section

[edit]

"Classic FM" is a very common name for a radio station or a radio program. Search in Google and you will find it is in use in many countries. Therefore there is no particular justification for using it for just the UK station. --Zero 12:43, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

However, Classic FM in the UK was the first radio station of this name and particular format (although a station called Classique FM existed in Lyon in France about a year before Classic FM UK started in 1992). Classic FM UK subsequently opened a series of franchised or joint venture stations under the same name and using the same music library, scheduling system and station branding including Classic FM in the Netherlands, South Africa, Finland and as one of the Sony-Warner (SW) network of stations in the USA (Robin Ray, Classic FM's music programmer, successfully sued the station for breach of copyright of his 'star rating' system for clasasical music when the system was used by the overseas versions of the station). Other "Classic FM" stations are copies of the original UK station, either in style or name, therefore Classic FM should be rightly attributed to the UK station. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 61.64.192.103 (talkcontribs) 14:57, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

I've just been through the links to Classic FM and disambiguated them. Out of the 26, 25 of them were referring to the UK station. Therefore I feel this page should be at Classic FM, with a toplink to Classic FM (disambiguation). JRawle (Talk) 13:51, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Current Presenters

[edit]

Many (most) of the featured people are no longer current. I'm happy to delete them, but that goes a bit against the grain, a loss of some of the station's history and evolution - increasingly an issue as it approaches 30 years of broadcasting. How about we have two sections, one for current and one for past presenters? David M Rowell (talk) 03:39, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism?

[edit]

The article has very little in the way of comment on the style of the radio station. I am not suggesting that it becomes too POV, but that the fact that there are dissenting voices should be mentioned, I believe. The pick-and-mix of the daily output, and the sometimes over-sugared voices annoy many afficiniados of classical music. Not that I am one of them, I hasten to add! I agree. This reads rather like an advertisement for the station. The BBC radio 3 article is full of criticisms and comparisons to Classic FM, and I thinks something similar should be done here. Classic FM's broadcasting style is rather controversial, particularly with listeners looking for more highbrow content.213.202.139.188 (talk) 19:52, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This entire page contains countless statements with no evidence to back them up. Someone even just wrote "source: the times" at the end of the "History" section. This is not how you cite a source for your information and I have gone through and requested citations for the appropriate claims.

I also noticed that, in the intro, it said the station broadcasts "popular and accessible music". This is a claim and opinion, not a statement of fact. I removed it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.229.171.66 (talk) 08:25, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jingle

[edit]

I wonder if there should be a section or at least a mention of the Classic FM jingle. I for one would love to know a little more about the piece, even the name and composer would be a start. 11:27, 14 April 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Psicorps (talkcontribs)

Addition of TMC information?

[edit]

I understand that TMC is broadcast in the UK on this radio station's frequency. Perhaps something should be added to highlight this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.23.212.21 (talk) 12:43, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anne-Marie Minhall

[edit]

I created the page Anne-Marie Minhall but some non-notable librarian in New York, in themerica, wants to delete it because his radio needs new batteries.

Could some Classic FM (UK) editor kindly add some information to show notability for Anne-Marie Minhall? I think that being a presenter on a national radio station should be enough. Francis Hannaway talk Francis Hannaway 19:57, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Identical logo for Classic FM (UK) and Classic FM (Netherlands)

[edit]

How come Classic FM (UK) and Classic FM (Netherlands) have the same logo? Do they have the same owner? Contact Basemetal here 19:38, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently not: Classic FM (UK) is own by Global Radio whereas Classic FM (Netherlands) is owned by Sky Radio Group. So what's the explanation for their sharing logos? Contact Basemetal here 19:43, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jane Jones

[edit]

I'm fairly certain from the absence of references to ClassicFM on Jane Wenham-Jones' website that she is NOT the Jane Jones on ClassicFM, whose career, per their website, has been almost entirely in broadcasting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.199.240.157 (talk) 01:31, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
