To-do list for Wikipedia:WikiProject Ancient Egypt:
We should have an article on every pyramid and every nome in Ancient Egypt. I'm sure the rest of us can think of other articles we should have.
To start with, most of the general history articles badly need attention. And I'm told that at least some of the dynasty articles need work. Any other candidates?
A boring task, but the benefit of doing it is that you can set the dates !(e.g., why say Khufu lived 2589-2566? As long as you keep the length of his reign correct, or cite a respected source, you can date it 2590-2567 or 2585-2563)
Anyone? I consider this probably the most unimportant of tasks on Wikipedia, but if you believe it needs to be done . . .
This is a project I'd like to take on some day, & could be applied to more of Wikipedia than just Ancient Egypt. Take one of the standard authorities of history or culture -- Herotodus, the Elder Pliny, the writings of Breasted or Kenneth Kitchen, & see if you can't smoothly merge quotations or information into relevant articles. Probably a good exercise for someone who owns one of those impressive texts, yet can't get access to a research library. |

FA status of Ancient Egypt under review[edit]
See Talk:Ancient Egypt#WP:URFA/2020. The article hasn't received sustained attention for a long time, and I fear our flagship article will lose its FA status without a concerted effort. Anyone who would like to help, please comment on the talk page. A. Parrot (talk) 00:50, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
A request raised at Talk:Elagabalus and Talk:Caracalla[edit]
I'd like to ask the experienced editors here to weigh-in with their opinions on the questions: should Template:Pharaoh be included on the articles of Roman emperors and if so, under what conditions
? I don't have strong opinions for or against it and the Roman period isn't one I have any useful familiarity with. Mr rnddude (talk) 19:12, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- The discussion isn't centralized and is spread across several talk pages, though I think LindsayH's thread opening at Template talk:Pharaohs is probably the best place to discuss this as it's more centralized, if in the back-end. Mr rnddude (talk) 20:19, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Brought up at FTN where they are asking for an Egyptologist to comment. It's fringe, maybe too much self-sourced. Also, I can't find citations 7 and 8 to verify them or see if they mention Rohl. Thanks. Doug Weller talk 11:37, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- Shock horror! Rohl added those citations. In fact, Rohl wrote 22:5% of the page.Eg [1]. Including, for example, "Thus, Rohl is of the opinion that none of these three foundations of the conventional Egyptian chronology are secure, and that the sacking of Thebes by the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal in 664 BC is the earliest fixed date in Egyptian history." WP:Who Wrote That is amazingly useful. Doug Weller talk 13:02, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
An editor has suggested creating an article for the fragmentary king list from Ramesses II's temple at Abydos, not to be confused with the Abydos King List inscribed in Ramesses' father's temple. Please discuss in the talk page section linked above. A. Parrot (talk) 15:43, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
