  • To my untrained eye, it looks like this article needs a cleanup. The factual information, so far as I know, is correct, but the presentation's rather disjointed. Perhaps sections on history, respectibility, security features, and recent news? Majromax 19:38, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
If you want to do that, knock yourself out. --Spinboy 20:07, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Wow, nice work as-is. I plead lack of sleep for a reason to not edit now, but just the sectioning made an impressive visual improvement to the page. --Majromax 22:08, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Proposed merge

[edit]
  • Proposed to merge Canadian Passport Order into this page. Seems unlikely that one will be viewed without the other, as they dovetail into each other. There's already significant overlap (this page duplicates everything of substance in Canadian Passport Order). I came to update news concerning the passport order, and frankly it's a pain to have to do so twice in two articles. Also, although both this page and Canadian Passport Order discuss the same events, the information is presented in a slightly discrepant manner. I think it would be more efficient to just discuss the Order as one subsection of the larger article on Passport Canada, and this would ensure that there are no discrepancies between two overlapping articles about the Order.Rumplefurskin (talk) 14:05, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. While there may be overlap, they're two very different things. GreenJoe 14:16, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Obviously they are different things. One is the order creating the agency and the other is the actual agency. However, the only relevance of the order is that it creates and sets the bounds for the agency. There's no unique information in the Canadian Passport Order page. I think a redirect to this page would be superior.Rumplefurskin (talk) 14:21, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • In the alternative, barring merger, I plan to copy holus-bolus the text from one page to the other, at least to maintain consistency and ease of editing.Rumplefurskin (talk) 14:30, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • In the further alternative, I just realized that there is a separate Canadian Passport page. There's an awful lot of overlap between all three of these pages, particularly regarding the source of passports in the royal prerogative and the on-again, off-again ability to refuse a passport on national security grounds. Some kind of consolidation would seem to be an improvement. Perhaps Canadian Passport Order would be more at home merged with Canadian Passport? Rumplefurskin (talk) 14:58, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
          • Making both pages look the same defeats the purpose of having different articles. They really all do deserve their own articles, because they're all about different things. But I suppose if you had to do some merging, you could merge the order to the bottom of this article, and the the article on the Canadian Passport alone. GreenJoe 20:15, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
            • The change works well enough for me, however I would prefer to keep the first issue discussed under this article as relating to the National Security" as a whole as opposed to just Khadr. Khadr has his own article. He's only relevant here inasmuch as his story affects the history and powers under the Order. There's clearly a broader story here, with the more recent removal of the national security ground by the court in the Kamel case. Rumplefurskin (talk) 20:32, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Further reflection leads me to believe that we need to carefully parse the subject matter that is apporopriate under this page and under Canadian Passport. Part of the problem of discussing the national security/khadr issue is that it doesn't actually have anything to do with the Passport Canada agency - they are not involved in these decisions. The same is true also of some of the other issues listed in this page, such as the length of passport validity. These are issues relating to the passport itself, not the Agency. I think this page should in fact have most of its text moved over to Canadian Passport. What should remain is a description of the agency, issues relevant to the agency itself (such as the Auditor General's report) and a discussion of the Passport Order to the extent that it establishes the Agency. Passport CanadaCanadian Passport Order – As Passport Canada is now defunct and the current article is almost 50-50 about the Canadian Passport Order, which remains in force as an Order-in-Council, it would be more effective under that title. Minimal reorganization would be required and no information would be lost. RA0808 talkcontribs 20:34, 19 November 2017 (UTC) --Relisting. Mahveotm (talk) 11:23, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
