As a Brockenhurst local, I've never heard it called anything but the Lymington River, not the River Lymington, and a google-count supports this; so moved.

Relationship between the Lymington River and the Highland Water

[edit]

As I understand it the water course is only called the Lymington River up to the edge of the Crown lands on the edge of Brockenhurst grid reference SU303030 or thereabouts. Upstream of this point its the Highland Water, fed by various other streams (significantly by Ober Water), all the way to the north of the Forest where it rises from Ocknell Plain. Should there be separate articles for Lymington River & Highland Water? I would like advice before I do anything (I'm new to this). JimChampion 23:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Having recently been to have a look at the area I mentioned above, its probably more sensible to say that the "Lymington River" starts at the confluence of the Ober Water and Highland Water at Bolderford Bridge west of New Park grid reference SU290041. JimChampion 09:33, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just read this "New Forest Note" by Anthony Pasmore... pdf file, in it he calls the watercourse north of Bolderford Bridge "the Lymington River" and also describes how this stretch was straightened during Victorian times as part of drainage improvements. It is being considered for "restoration" at the moment. 86.144.74.13 21:44, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
