Chalst's thoughts

[edit]

Nice summary. Some reactions:

  • I, too, was introduced to single malts by my, well, we weren't involved long enough for me to call her my girlfriend, but anyway, she introduced me to Laphroaigh;
  • The Macallan is my true love amongst scotches. I have 5: the 10yo, the 12yo, the 1981 edition of the 18yo, the Twenties special edition and the Gran Reserva. Lovely jubbly!
  • Cragganmore is excellent, my choice of best single malt to introduce to people who aren't sure whether or not they'll like it;
  • Underappreciated malts: Clynelish, I guess tops my list. Not enough people have tried Ardbeg, but that's more a function of availability than reputation.

[edit]
  • Highland Park: my mother's from Orkney, so I've had a bucketload of indoctrination about the superiority of this malt that took me years to shake off. Nice, but not in my top 5 distillers;
  • 1980 Dallas Dhu: you've persuaded me to seek this out.
  • Berlin: is a wonderful place to drink whisky. Germans love to see big selections of single malts behind the counter.
