Something important to add

[edit]

It's important to add that while the comission was receiving torture claims, President Ricardo Lagos announced that everyone who was believed by the comission to have been tortured would receive a lifetime salary.

Why is it a disputed page?

[edit]

What exactly is disputed? Lagos maybe announced that, but the end result was hardly to the expectancies. I think this article is NPOV...

Wording

[edit]

"One woman was raped in prison and four women were pregnant at the time of their arrest and were tortured; their children were considered "direct victims". Victims were detained for six months, on average." This makes it sound as if only one woman had been raped; however, rape was extremely common during torture, and the testimony of victims often details this. The wording of this sentence is in general odd. Was this by any chance meant to be about a child conceived as a result of rape during detention? (A notable case of that sort resulted in a miscarriage, but it can't have been the only one.) Feketekave (talk) 18:21, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From the Guardian: "Mr Lagos revealed that 94% of those detained had been subjected to torture and that, of the 3,400 women who gave evidence, almost all had been victims of sexual violence." Feketekave (talk) 18:23, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

También hay denuncias de hombres violados y abusados por sus captores;" ("... rape and sexual abuse, especially against women; most women prisoners declare having been raped (many repeatedly) and having undergone groping and many kinds of sexual abuse; 13 of them state having been made pregnant by their rapists; besides, some declare having been raped by dogs. There are also accusations by men raped and abused by their captors...") So, the wording in the current version of the text is misleading, and will have to go.
