Alternate Captain vs Associate

[edit]

Please discuss this here. The term, typically, is Alternate Captain. Dbrodbeck (talk) 01:16, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to the NHL rule book (which is cited at Captain (ice hockey)), the position held by Timonen is alternate captain, though the coach calls/called him associate captain. Which citation takes precedence? NHL rule book? or the Flyer coach's invention? Imput would be appreciated. GoodDay (talk) 01:20, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to me the coach could call his position 'Larry' but it would still be 'alternate captain' Dbrodbeck (talk) 01:37, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As it pertains to the Flyers, I don't think the coach is the one determining who is the captain/alternate captains. He probably has a say, but in recent Flyers history (going back to at least 2000) the GM seems to be the one who makes the decision. The Flyers named him an associate captain and since that doesn't seem to differ much, if at all, from an alternate captain it links to that section of the Captain article. I don't see the harm of having one exception to the rule here. --Parkfly3 (talk) 01:45, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't we just put "alternate captain", and make a note, perhaps a parenthetical phrase, that his title is "associate"? However, on second thought, come October, it's not going to matter, because he's done playing, and so someone else is going to get the 'A'. 98.114.248.202 (talk) 04:24, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
