Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rambot (talkcontribs) 14:55, 27 July 2003 (UTC)[reply]

County Seat

[edit]

Pineville is not the county seat of Mecklenburg. Charlotte is the county seat. The administrative units of the county are in Charlotte. Every listing that I could find had Charlotte as the County Seat. Why did this page change it to Pineville? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dinobrya (talkcontribs) 17:28, 22 June 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This is correct. Charlotte-Mecklenburg is all local govenment cars, buildings, pamphlets, etc. Who ever put Pineville has not been to Pineville. It is nothing more than a town in the SW corner of Mecklenburg County. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.30.118.28 (talk) 23:47, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Township discussion

[edit]

The section on townships shows a misunderstanding of the legal meaning and use of township in North Carolina. Townships still effectively exist, even if they have been annexed by a municipality. They are used for a variety of purposes including Census records and in drawing voting precinct boundaries. They can also be important in interpreting historical land records. While the current text of this section is misleading, it might be better if it were deleted entirely as not essential to the entry. Several comments scattered throughout this article betray a preoccupation with annexation issues that is not really relevant to an encyclopedia entry.Ftjrwrites 19:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History sources

[edit]

Listed above are a few older books on the history of Mecklenburg County and all are available online in their entirety. They should contain some material that may be suitable for the history section. They might not be suitable for the history of the Mecklenburg Resolves, however.

Pronunciation

[edit]

As a German speaker, I'm confused how to pronounce Mecklenburg County correctly. May somebody please add IPA?PeterTrompeter (talk) 10:18, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I added the pronunciation but am not an expert in IPA. Patterned the pronunciation on Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Ken Gallager (talk) 13:47, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
