Summary Deletion

[edit]

It accomplishes nothing positive to delete an action and state that one should not go about things in a particular way, or for a particular reason, without actually explaining how one should use the metro navbox as I did. Telling me I did something you consider wrong and providing a partial explanation does not lead to improving one's techniques, assuming that is what you had in mind with this public slap-down. Hushpuckena (talk) 01:23, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hushpuckena: You didn't actually add the Greater Boston navbox to the article; you added its source text (the full wikitext you see when editing the page using the source editor) to the page. Navboxes only need the name of the template (without the "Template:" namespace prefix at the beginning) added between a pair of curly brackets (i.e. {{Greater Boston}}) when adding it to an article or any other page on Wikipedia. The Navbox template itself should only be used on navigational template pages so that adding a navbox to an article would be easily transcluded as I explained. The fact that there was already a different navbox used on the page should've been easy enough to tell you how a navbox template is properly called upon for an article.
Also, there's no need to get so personal and accusational about a simple undo. Edit summaries have a maximum character limit, much of which was taken up by the added placeholder "Undid revision" text. I was not doing anything more than undo your edit and provide that brief summary; there's no need to get worked up about it. –WPA (talk) 02:15, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
