from VfD:

Not notable. --Carnildo 06:40, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • This high school is pretty well-known, at least in the Chicago area. And I tend to think that schools in general merit articles if someone is interested enough to write about them. That said, the article as it stands now is too short and doesn't really tell much about the school, so I abstain for now. If it were expanded/improved, I'd change my vote. — Knowledge Seeker দ (talk) 08:58, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Very short of info at the moment. I tend to think separate short articles (or padded out articles with only a short bit of really useful info) are more confusing than a collated overview, so merge with Palatine, Illinois which already refers to the school under the heading Education. Average Earthman 14:58, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete without signs that the school is notable and possessing an unique identity. Drive through restaurants are too common to merit an article, but The Varsity in Atlanta, as the largest drive-through in the world (serving something like 50,000 lbs. of beef a year), would be unlike others, commented upon in song and story, etc., and would merit an article. Boston Latin School is the oldest public HS in America, so it has some claim to fame aside from being a school where people go. Does this? Not provided by the article. Geogre 15:00, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Trouble with listing schools is, like assholes and opinions, everybody has one and we all think out alma mater is worthy of inclusion. Well, mostly they're not. They are mostly located somewhere that already has an entry and (just as we don't list every single hospital and clinic) we shouldn't list the school but write about the significant schools in any given area. Accordingly, delete. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 16:54, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, a noteworthy stub on William Fremd High School. GRider\talk 17:17, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, a good school stub. - SimonP 17:39, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, seems more notable than other stubs on obscure fictional characters that get lovingly cultivated around here. Katefan0 19:04, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. In principle, high schools are notable (and as Katefan0 mentioned, even more notable than Johnny Zhivago). Wyss 19:41, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Schools are inheritantly notable. --Andylkl 20:07, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Few schools meet the high bar of notability required to be encyclopedic --Improv 22:28, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. Significant updates have been made to the site and more is expected.
  • Keep and respectfully disagree with this VfD listing. —RaD Man (talk) 00:24, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Weak Keep. Never sure about schools... P Ingerson 00:36, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Weak delete, willing to change vote if someone can actually rewrite to demonstrate notability, but I don't think that's been shown yet. And what the h--- is "the infamous Brown's Chicken Massacre"? This is not the sort of thing that makes me look favorably on an article. -- Jmabel | Talk 01:52, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)
    • Go re-read what you just asked again. Then reconsider. —RaD Man (talk) 02:23, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep.--JuntungWu 02:51, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
    • Well, I still think it'd be more useful merged into the Palatine article (see vote above) but if we do keep it, for pity's sake can we lose the mission statement? Average Earthman 12:12, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Not notable. Oh, and Todd Hundley never held the record for homeruns by a catcher. Indrian 02:13, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)
    • Are you absolutely sure about that? [1] —RaD Man (talk) 02:18, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)
      • He broke the single-season record. The implication of the wording used in the article is that he broke the career record. I changed the article to specify. Indrian 02:24, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)
        • Thank you for the clarification. —RaD Man (talk) 02:30, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. Notability is not actually a criterion according to the deletion policy. Is it verifiable? I see references there - David Gerard 03:56, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. This is a verifiable and accurate entry. William Fremd High School happens to be a well-known public school in the midwest and is considered to be among the best in the nation. - Mastasnypa 12:51, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Picture request

[edit]

Can somebody post a picture of the building or the mascot please? --TheAznSensation 03:19, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC) Ok I added two pictures myself since nobody was willing to do it. Better pictures are out there but I couldn't find them. --TheAznSensation 05:39, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Fremd's stance on Wikipedia

[edit]

I would like to point that it is the major consensus of the Fremd teaching staff that Wikipedia is “the worst source you can possibly use” and “the last place you would want to look for information.” I am a student currently attending the school (Who just happens to be writing this on a school computer) and my English class was informed of this yesterday. Apparently the staff equates the site to a lawless, anarchic wasteland where anything goes and that the articles listed there are comprised of nothing but lies, misinformation, vandalism, and a whole slew of garbage that doesn’t go through any moderating or any sort of quality control at all.

Somehow I find this sentiment rather ironic, sad, offending, and ignorant all at the same time. --209.7.119.160 15:54, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article Quality

[edit]

Almost the complete article is complete plagarism from the Fremd website. I do not know enough about the school, having only been there once, to change it, but it needs a rewrite.Omnijohn 00:28, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I completely agree with Omnijohn and will work to rewrite and cite sources of information in the article. I did attend the school and will try my best to remain objective. Rmcii 17:07, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • What are you talking about? I wrote this article from my experience, knowledge, and understanding of William Fremd High School. I used the school's website as a resource on only a small portion of the article, do not make statements regarding the origins of the rest of the article when you have little substance in your argument. --TheAznSensation 22:59, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Look at the page again (maybe need to look through history). See all those references, and "need reference" ... its better to reference where the info came from than just rewrite info from the school/district website. Statements like, "one of America's top 100 schools according US News & Weekly Reports" may fly on their website, but we'd like to have actual references here! Some of the copying controversy comes from other edits where some bloke (the same one who seems to run http://www.fremdrobotics.com/) thought he could setup a temporary website for a bunch of student activities and link them all from here. The info on those pages was a direct copy of info here (making it questionable if he wrote the data their and copied it here, or vice versa) Rmcii 14:20, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating
