Plural nicknames

[edit]

In my humble opinion, ALL the team categories need to be changed from singular to plural—for example, "Chicago Cub players" should be "Chicago Cubs players".

Generally, if a baseball fan uses the phrase "TEAM player", he or she will almost always use "Cubs player", "Mets player", "Yankees player", or the like—NOT the singular team name. Dale Arnett 05:58, 12 Sep 2004 (UTC)

National Association clubs

[edit]

25 clubs fielded 50 teams in the five National Association (NAPBBP or NA) seasons. Six of the 25 clubs became six of eight charter members of the NL and the other 19 are not recognized as major by MLB.

All of the NA "players by team" categories are included here. (At the moment, there are 24, one combining the players for two distinct Washington Nationals clubs.) Among the six NA/NL clubs: three have combined player categories (Chicago White Stockings, Hartford Dark Blues, New York Mutuals); three have separate categories for players in their NA and NL seasons (Boston "Red Stockings" and "Red Caps", Philadelphia Athletics "NA" and "NL", St. Louis Brown Stockings "NA" and unspecified).

The Bos Red Stockings, Phi Athletics, and StL Brown Stockings players categories may be unreliable for another reason but I have not corrected or even checked categorization of "players" articles and stubs, only "players by team" categories. --P64 14:51, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Update regarding those six clubs who span 1875/1876:
It remains true that three are represented by one players category, three by two players categories.
The "all-time rosters" lists for those six clubs all span the league reorganization (after my revision of St. Louis Brown Stockings all-time roster today.) --P64 (talk) 05:38, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

American Association clubs

[edit]

I'm curious as to why some AA clubs are listed in this category and not others. For example, Cincinnati Kelly's Killers has a category here for players, but Richmond Virginians do not, yet both were members of the American Association. Is it some nuance I'm missing, or should I create categories here for the missing team(s)? Kathy A. 21:14, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
