Wikification

Complaints

Potter, New York

[edit]

Your "wikification" of Potter, New York, no matter how well-intentioned, seriously damaged the article by creating links to wrong articles or just blank pages. In addition, the history section that you were working on was probably plagiarized and may need to be mostly deleted. Try to wikify more carefully before you attempt this again. Thanks, Stepp-Wulf 23:43, 14 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]

It's easy to make mistakes, get tired, be less careful, after many hours wikifying articles. I can tell from your talk page you are quite devoted to pages on New York and the New York area. To me it was just another poorly written, cluttered article that needed some formatting. Often we see wikify tags when copyediting is needed, or cleanup, or other tasks. It's easy to get off track and make mistakes. I am still learning the wikification process, and I will try to do better. On your side, if you don't want articles wikified, I recommend removing the wikify tag.JubalHarshaw 18:08, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Actually, I like having articles improved by wikifying and always try to do a little each time I'm on line. I certainly have screwed up too, so just try to be careful. I don't know who puts the notices in the articles, but in this case, I believe most of the history section has to go due to plagiarism... when I get the chance, I'll do it. BUT thanks for the effort. Stepp-Wulf 01:13, 23 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]

General

[edit]

When you wikify an article, please make sure you do more links and do not remove the tag if it isn't a complete wikification. You are only meant to remove the Wikify tag if its been completely wikified. Thanks! — Wackymacs 15:36, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Understood, but I'm not going to add wikilinks just for the sake of adding them. Only if the link would be relevant, in context, or provide more information that may add to the understanding of the article in question will I add it. I'm still not clear why you reverted instead of just re-adding the wikify tag. JubalHarshaw 15:47, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to jump in and agree with Wackymacs here. I've seen many articles you've "wikified" by adding two wikilinks in an article of 5, 6 paragraphs. That's far too few. Metros232 00:42, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd like to a few cite examples, I'll gladly go back and do a bit more work. In the end I'm more concerned with sections, proper formatting of lists, duplication of existing content, badly named pages, pages lacking infoboxes, obvious copyvio, etc. Any fool can add a couple brackets to make wikilinks, and most of them do. My real issue was the complete reversion of my edits by Wackymacs, rather than re-adding a wikify tag, so that a wikifier can take another run through. We're 7000 or so pages behind as it is; sometimes I get interrupted and do a more cursory appraisal than I would like. It's not like I'm being paid here. I truly am doing the best I can. JubalHarshaw 02:19, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please see my comments on your and Whpq's page. What would be the point of citing examples to other editors, rather than telling me where I'm going wrong? It's a bit insulting. JubalHarshaw 05:02, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jubal: thanks for the removal of the Alternative Interpretation (Alien Abduction) on the Hotel California (Song) page, the reason that I didn't feel that I could remove it was that I am the author of a different joke interpretation that is fairly well known and thus I didn't feel I had a NPOV to edit. Dzubint 13:58, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, and I see where that could possibly be problematic. I have no such POV, so glad to help! =) JubalHarshaw 14:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Harshaw's Law"

[edit]

Hey, Jubal. I wonder if you've got Stranger handy. Can you quote his position on artists needing interpreters (critics)? I mention it on the "Jerry Maguire" talk page, but I haven't got a copy handy... Service! Trekphiler 12:58, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm digging as we speak, you posed a difficult question. A few text searches come up nil. I'll speed-read it in the next couple of days and try to find something for you. Off the top of my head I don't remember "Harshaw's law" ... JubalHarshaw 02:12, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Society of Inner Light

[edit]

I noticed you did not de-prod "The Society of Inner Light" but you did add a merge request to it. I am going to delete it since it's been a week since the prod tag was added but, if you want a copy so you can merge it somewhere, let me know and I'll give you one. — Wknight94 (talk) 14:44, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but my interest is not all that great. I just added a merge tag to show a possible alternative to deletion if someone cared enough to do so. JubalHarshaw 02:20, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Overrated

[edit]

You mentioned that it would be nice if someone from Overrated helped you out on the article. I'm in the guild and I'm the one quoted in all of those dumb news articles about it. I fixed a few inaccuracies that have little to no bearing on the actual content of the article, but if you have any further questions to clean up the article, feel free to send me a line. --Pantaloons 01:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Pantaloons! This is Zaljerem; remember me? Feel free to update that article as you see fit ... I really just wrote it as an experiment, you guys really are notable by Wikipedia standards and I wanted to see if someone put it up for deletion, etc. I probably should have just put it at Overrated but I figured Overrated (WOW guild) had a higher likelihood of survival. I hope all is well with you, good to hear from you. Stop in and say hi at mnm.net sometime; we're still alive and kicking and looking forward to the expansion. Your message

[edit]

Thank you very much indeed for your kind words. I did a few today; can you remember which one tickled you so much? --Guinnog 02:03, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I remember one where the guy had edited his talk page from your warning to "WHO THE FUCK IS GUINNOG" ... I guess he found out, didn't he? JubalHarshaw 04:57, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heh. Yes, I enjoyed that one too! --Guinnog 05:07, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look at your contributions. Very impressive. I noticed too that you are interested in spelling and grammar. Do you have any opinion on date linking? For example, in an article about the Beatles, do you think we should have 1970 or 1970? Don't worry if you have no opinion on this. Best wishes, --Guinnog 04:23, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks ... I've come to enjoy wikification quite a bit, I love to roll the dice, and Wikipedia in general is an awesome project that I'm proud to be a part of! An opinion on date linking? I have an opinion on most everything. =)
I am generally against directly linking to 1970 gratuitously. I do use " [[1970 in music|1970]] - [[1982 in music|1982]] " (or something similar) in album/song infoboxes (in Years_active), but that's a special use that links to a more specific 1970 article, in the guise of a date link. That's really the only time I link dates. When wikifying, I usually remove them. Take care! JubalHarshaw 06:28, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Jubal Harshaw

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Jubal Harshaw. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jubal Harshaw. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

Hi. FYI, I have made a nice clean version of the Dwarf Fortress userbox you have, {{User:Chaos5023/Userboxes/Dwarf Fortress}}. It also reflects the fact that Dwarf Fortress 0.31.18 changed the elf glyph from E to e. :) —chaos5023 (talk) 22:29, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

battlestarwiki.org seems damaged

[edit]

Hi there!

I would have posted on the notice board on battlestarwiki.org itself, however I cannot anymore, since editing is no longer possible: The edit page opens, but there is only a summary line, while the text field is just not displayed.

Also, FrakMedia, the forums and the Pegasus links are either down or the target site reports mysql errors (revealing actual sql commands and some such).

Maybe you could take a look, as you are mentioned as a "chief" there?

Thanks a lot!--*thing goes (talk) 20:04, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
