Minnesota

[edit]

Might want to not infer that the team was based on Minnesota. Like mentioned below, the stadium shots where Kinnick. Also, the school outside shots where the University of Iowa, the creator went to school at Iowa, and the creator offered Hayden Fry royalties before it ever aired - because Hayden Fox was based on Fry

The school was called Minnesota State and the show was filmed in Hollywood — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.59.82.93 (talk) 03:03, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

POV

[edit]

The following sentence seemed too POV, so I cut it and moved it here:

"The final season of the series had Coach Fox headhunted by the NFL to coach a new team in Florida and was generally superfluous, as its pathetic-underdog antics were essentially a rehash of the first season."

Big Ten?

[edit]

Wasn't Minnesota State supposed to be a Big Ten team? I remember they would talk of games against Micigan, etc...........67.108.84.162 16:53, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The external shots of MSU's football Stadium were of the outside of Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. --12.217.225.186 21:28, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have an argument with this quote: "Minnesota State takes the U of M's place in the Big Ten Conference; in several episodes the characters talk about games with Big Ten schools like The University of Iowa and Michigan State University. ". Is their any factual basis that Minnesota was NOT in the Big 10 in this "fictionalized" universe? The Big 10 has Michigan and Michigan State, so, conceptually, the "Coach" "Big Ten" could have had Minnesota AND Minnesota State.

"The Screaming Eagles" did play the Minnesota Golden Gophers in one episode

[edit]

The town in which the fictional Minnesota State University was located in was never mentioned by name. However, numerous times references to "going up to Minneapolis" was included in the dialogue. This would mean for all practical purposes, the town in which Minnesota State was located most likely was south of the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

"going up to Minneapolis" I disagree with the notion that this means MSU is south of UM. Remember the cultural demographics of the state of minnesota, Germans and Scandinavians. I have studied german in college and they often say "go up to..." regardless of direction, this oral tradition carried over. My wife is from a predominatly german part of ohio and she says we need to 'go up' to cincinnati, even though Cincy is an hour south. The direction given in the phrase is most likely a linguistic quirk with little standing on the actual location of MSU.

Therefore, Minnesota State and the University of Minnesota could very well have been members of the same conference; though the Big 10 Conference was never mentioned as such.

The numerous game clips that were used on "Coach" were quite obviously shot in the Metrodome in Minneapolis during Golden Gophers football games.

The film clips that were used in the "Pioneer Bowl" episodes were most definitely shots taken from inside the Metrodome during a Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Wisconsin Badgers game. The big red "W" on the opposing team's helmets was a sure giveaway.

Requesting actors' names for the cast photo description

[edit]

The description of Image:Coach.jpg is missing actors' names, so therefore it's impossible to see which actor is which just by looking at the faces on that photo. -Mardus 02:19, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added in the actors' names under the photograph. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 14:30, 18 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

The theme song

[edit]

I put a bit in about the theme song being performed by the Iowa State Marching Band. I put links to two sources. They aren't what I would call "strong" sources, but the two of them together should be sufficient. If anyone disagrees feel free to message me, or add to this discussion. Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series

[edit]

I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help. Please give it a read through, also please do not comment here since I do not have all of the series on my watch list. - LA @ 16:21, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Series Finale Content

[edit]

With Netflix losing Coach, I jumped ahead and watched the finale (last 3 episodes). I think the article has mistakes in that section. The article states Christina now works for a local news station. I rewatched the ending scene a couple of times and nowhere does it state that. The only mention of Christine is that she made friends.

The article states Dauber became the new head coach of the wave. What the ending scene states is that Dauber stayed on. It does not state in what capacity though you can probably assume some assistant coach role as opposed to a front office role. But it definitely does not state he was the head coach.

I also think the Howard section should state that he was fired and that was why he sold his Barbie collection and built his dream dinner theater.

Finally, not sure where to put it, but I think it should be mentioned that the characters Larry, Darryl, and Darryl from the show Newhart make an appearance (though the appearance is actually the 2nd to last episode - the finale is a multi-part). This puts Coach in the same universe/time period as Newhart.

The link for the text '1', Season 1, is

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coach_(TV_series)#Season_1_(1989)

instead of

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Coach_episodes#Season_1_(1989)

Perhaps this is because the list article doesn't have (TV_Series) in the page title?

For comparison, the TV Series Herman's Head has a link in the Episodes section for the text '1', Season, of:

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Herman%27s_Head_episodes#Season_1_(1991%E2%80%9392)
