"It is next to impossible to isolate any one section of Amarok without it seeming out of place... though Oldfield has played excerpts from time to time."

An apparent contradiction there... Lee M 01:47, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It is. Mike's played excerpts of it during concerts and on entertainment shows, but it always seems out of place when he starts (just launches into it) and they usually end it by fading it out because there's almost nowhere to stop "correctly". The Elements single-disc excerpt starts at Africa and fades out about two minutes later, for example, and it just doesn't sound right. User:Inky

— To be fair, it IS perfectly possible to excerpt an Incantations-length track from it, precisely starting like the Elements excerpt at 44:47, but up to the end of the album, for a precisely 15:15 track – that's the tryout excerpt I make people listen to, and no one felt it not right ;-) ←#6  talk 01:41, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

"Amarok transcript - Complete and verbatim (on a stable Archive.org link)"

Ironically, this link does not work (at least it did not when I tried it).

It works just fine for me (I'm not the original commenter). Laugh Tough (talk) 15:36, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Banners

[edit]

I have made some changes to the body text that, I hope, improve NPOV of the article. I'haven't removed the banners yet as I've not gone through all of the text. While I've added an extra citation to reflect some of the writing in the lead para, I don't believe there are still enough there. I haven't managed to add any more. For that reason, I've left the banners in place as I believe that, while improved slightly, the article can still be moved further. Illuminatusds; talk 18:11, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adding direct access chapters to an iTunes ALAC-encoded M4A file

[edit]

On a Mac, in Terminal.app use the command below in the folder containing the iTunes M4A file containing an ALAC-encoded copy of Amarok to convert the existing M4A into one with chapters. Then import the output file "outfile.m4a" into iTunes. The file ALBUM.meta it a text file containing the chapter metadata shown underneath this command, which needs to be placed in the same folder as the input M4A file. This metadata has been derived from the movement times shown on the main Wikipedia page.

When the file is played an additional Chapters menu will appear, providing direct access to the individual movements.

The same command may also work on Windows but has not been tried.

For ffmpeg go to http://www.ffmpeg.org.

ffmpeg -i 01\ Amarok.m4a -i ALBUM.meta -map 0:0 -map_metadata 1 -c:a:0 copy -vn outfile.m4a
